Creating accurate sweater sketches using Adobe Illustrator is very difficult and time consuming for sweater designers. There are numerous types of cables, stitches and ribs that are used to create sweater designs. Representing these details accurately usually means sketching each element individually. As a result, sketching knit sweater designs with accurate details is very time consuming, and in some cases, details are bypassed altogether in the interest of saving time.

All too familiar with this challenge, we began creating our own Adobe Illustrator brushes and swatches to represent various sweater cables and ribs, allowing us to create detailed sweater flats quickly and efficiently. Having pre-made brushes and swatches eliminates the need to sketch each detail individually, making it easy to create accurately detailed sweater sketches much more quickly. Instead of spending hours sketching meticulous cable designs for a particular garment sketch, a brush or swatch can be applied to any garment style with a single click to easily depict accurate details.

Each download contains a brush and swatch library file along with a Sample Page in Illustrator format containing examples of each brush/swatch set.

Sample Page:

1. Open the Sample Page for the desired brush/swatch set. Strokes of each brush and fill samples of each swatch are displayed on the page.
   
2. Copy the stroke with the desired brush, or fill with the desired swatch, and paste it into the document with your artwork.
   
3. The pasted brush/swatch will automatically be added to the Brushes or Swatches panel and will be saved with the document.

Brush Library Sets:

1. Save the library sets (named “…-set.ai”) in the desired location on your computer. You can also add them to the existing Adobe Illustrator brush presets folder (Mac: Applications>Adobe Illustrator>Presets>Brushes / PC: My Computer>C Drive>Program Files>Adobe Illustrator>Presets>Brushes).
   
2. Open Adobe Illustrator and in the Brushes panel, click the Brush Libraries Menu located at the bottom left of the Brushes panel and select “Other Library”.
   
3. The “Select Library to Open” directory window will open, allowing you to located and open the desired library file. By default, the window will open in the Illustrator Presets Brushes folder. If you saved the file in a different location, browse through the directory to locate the file.
   
4. Select the desired library file and click OK to open.
   
5. A new brush library panel will open in Illustrator containing the selected brush set.

Swatch Library Sets:
